Our NYC Dads Group, chock full of stay at home dads, part time home dads, and some freelance dads, ventured down to a parent oasis in Soho yesterday called Citibabes. As we entered, their stroller valet freed us of our strollers and pointed the way towards their 1,500 square foot playspace. The dads in the group appreciated the open layout in their playspace so you were able to keep an eye your child from every vantage point. The spacious area was clean, colorful, and fun that included a rubberized floor, pads on all of the walls, slides, rocking horses, mats, cool toys - the experience made you feel like you were in a playground, but indoors. The playspace lent itself well for our kids to socialize and interact with one another as well as for us dads to relax and talk about our kids recent progress.
After using their playspace, our nyc dads group participated in a FREE trial music class that Citibabes offers. Bandmates music class ROCKED! This class featured a 3-piece band for "rollicking" fun in this entertaining, stimulating, and loud musical performance class. Bandmates exposed our kids to several instruments for them to play with including tambourines, music shakers, and chimes. The band made me feel like I was at a rock concert jamming tunes like "Viva Las Vegas" and Brown Eyed Girl." It was a great vibe an our kids were completely engaged. I agree with one of the dads who shared that "it was a spirited class, but did not lend itself to much social interaction - mostly listening." Overall, for a free music trial class, this place is about as good as it gets!
Citibabes is worth checking out. For those dads in Westchester, look out for the opening of their second location in Scarsdale this summer.
