NYC Dads Group Takes Over AHA Learning Playspace

Stay-at-home-dad mania took over on the Upper East Side today! Our NYC Dads Group descended upon the AHA Learning Playspace. Their open playspace was perfect for our group of 14 dads to just hang out and let our babies roam, socialize, and explore their surroundings as well as each other. We did not rent the place out today, but we were the only guests there, so it was just a "sea of dads." Their space provides fun and games for children ages 0-5 and includes a bounce castle, train set, play gyms, puppet theater, play kitchen, doll-house, puzzles, sports ball pit, and more. The coolest part is once you pay your drop-in fee (around $20 and includes free demo class), the space provides hours of activity without a time-limit. We hung out there for 2 1/2 hours...and would have stayed longer if we did not have to get home to see our wives!

On a positive note, one dad said there was "plenty of room to feed your kid if need be, and not be in the middle of all the action." However, another dad mentioned that "it was fine as a place to have the kids interact, but enrichment-wise, it just seemed like an overgrown living room with lots of toys. For the price of usage, I'd rather take him to a class where someone is leading the kids to learn something new." Overall, I think the space at Aha will be a spot for us to meet up again in the near future. I would certainly recommend this place to any dad or dad/mom group looking to get out of their apartment on a cold or rainy day.
