Sippy Cups Can Be Frustrating

"Can't I just put water in his feeding bottle instead of formula/milk?" is a question I asked our pediatrician when my son Jake was 6 months old. We were having a conversation about using a sippy cup so he can start to drink water. I use Born Free bottles to feed our son so naturally my first jump into the world of sippy cups was to try Born Free. He refused the sippy cup every time I tried to introduce it to him - not sure why.

Now, my son is almost nine months old and he is finally using a sippy cup. It took a couple of months for trial and error. The sippy cup that "he" selected because it agrees with him the most, is the Safe Sippy made by Kid Basix (see picture above). It is slightly heavier than other sippy cups I have tried, but it is BPA free, easily cleaned because the container is made of stainless steel, and no-spill. Most of the time Jake likes to use his Safe Sippy as a toy, throwing it or knocking it down, and it seems to hold up well from his abuse. Most importantly, he uses it to drink his water everyday during this slow transitional period away from using his feeding bottle. If you are like me, and have several questions about sippy cups including- when to start with a sippy cup, what is a sippy cup, how to transition to a sippy cup, what to do when your child refuses his sippy cup, check out this helpful article on "Sippy Cups Do's and Dont's" from the Baby Center: http://www.babycenter.com/0_sippy-cup-dos-and-donts_1439508.bc
