It is the worst feeling as a new parent when your kid gets sick because there is not much you can do! I sit on the sidelines giving my son the saline drops, steam showers in the bathroom, running the humidifier, and elevating the crib mattress, all in hopes to make his life a little easier. Unfortunately, these colds occur frequently (his 4th time in 9 months) and usually last for 10 days. I read that most newborns will get sick approximately 8 times per year for their first couple of years & it usually occurs between October - March. If you do the math - 8 times sick at 10 days each is 80 sick days that occurs during a 6 month period (Oct - Mar)...so your kid might be sick 80/180 days or almost 50% of the winter months!
When my son is sick, life can be more challenging for me as well. As a stay at home dad who is always looking to connect and get out of my apartment, we do not get the opportunity to go to our weekly music class, spend lots of time outside, or meet up with the guys in our playgroup. It is also a challenge to avoid getting sick myself, but what can you do when your kid coughs and sneezes all over you? I hope the little man gets better fast!

Absolutely agree with you Lance, as Dad you want to be 50 hours a day with your little one when he/she is sick. Emilia has been sick (cold, fever) and is not fun, this past weekend she woke up at 2:30am and went to bed at 6:30 am !. I hope weather gets better so we can meet with kids outside.
ReplyDeleteHope Jake feels ok soon !
