Outnumbered in the Big City

Last Friday, I was fortunate to be taking a bicycle ride on a beautiful and sunny 60 degree day in NYC's Central Park...without my son. (thanks mom) Now, I am not drawing any major conclusions from an hour-long bike ride, just merely making some observations.

There were thousands of people taking advantage of the beautiful park day- locals as well as tourists. As I biked the loop a few times, I honed in on just the parents and their kids. No, I did not have a pen and paper with me for this exercise so I may be off slightly.
I spotted over 90 moms with their kids- about half of them were in pairs, and the other half were flying solo...only 5 were together with a male.

Where were the dads? Outnumbered, of course!

I spotted only 4 dads with their kids, all of whom were flying solo. 4 out of 94 (less than 5%). Sure, it's possible that the 5 males traveling with the moms could have been dads as well. Where were the dads on this beautiful day? Maybe they were like me - cruising circles around the park's loop, free as a bird because their parents were watching their kids...or grabbing some pizza, on the playground, or watching a sporting event.
