NYC Dads Group hosts Nurture Shock author, Ashley Merryman

Ashley Merryman: On Parenting from PopTech on Vimeo. "Ashley Merryman has co-authored numerous articles about parenthood. Over the past two years, she and journalist Po Bronson have collaborated on an award-winning series of articles in New York Magazine. Their most recent work, a book titled NurtureShock, explores cutting edge research that challenges many familiar myths about how to best parent kids."

Ashley Merryman is coming to NYC for a parenting discussion! Consider this guest blog post from Matt S., the assistant organizer of our NYC Dads Group, an "invitation" to what should be an interesting night for parents or just "a gentle nudge" as he calls it...

Dear Dads,

I am writing to encourage you and your wife/partner to consider attending the Nurture Shock Parenting Event we have planned for January 20 at 92Y Tribeca. First, and foremost, the event should be very interesting. The book has been featured on Good Morning America, Nightline, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, Newsweek, and others. In addition to my previous blog entry, RebelDad (aka Brian Reid) also reviewed the book in his Washington Post On Parenting column, and called it "brilliant."

Second, I believe the unique nature of our group and the fact that we live in New York contributes to our ability to attract interesting guests. I would like to continue to organize* events with luminaries in the fields of parenting and fatherhood, but we need to have a good turnout to leverage this opportunity.

Third, this is a great deal. A similar event was hosted by the Parents League a few months ago and tickets went for $25/person. Tickets for our event are only $12! Go out for dinner or grab drinks afterwards, and you've got the makings of a great night!

Hope to see you there!

Here are the details:
