A few months ago, I was at an indoor play-gym with some friends. My son gulped down his milk, only to spit it back up again moments later. The projectile landed in a nearby diaper bag. Obviously embarrassed & a bit shocked, the mechanism in my brain caused me to laugh hysterically (not the most appropriate thing to do) at this awkward moment. Next, I made sure my son was alright before I assessed the damage to the diaper bag (where the unfortunate parent that it belonged to was looking on as well). Then, we got some wipes and tried our best to clean inside the bag. A hot mess! I tried to use a bit of humor and apologize profusely, but it was a tough situation. How do you handle something like that?
What is a parent to do when your child yells, "Hey dad, that lady is fat!"? Kids are so brutally honest with their words, and don't always understand what is (or is not) appropriate so us parents are caught in several sticky situations cleaning up the mess. Here is some good news. Babble is at it again offering sound advice for parents in handling these awkward moments - a must read if you plan on taking your child out in public. Most Embarrassing Kid Moments:What to do when your child says the darndest things by Ellen Seidman, February 2, 2010 tackles 8 challenging moments - like the one I faced, where your kid has just pooped/vomited/spewed snot/deposited some other bodily fluid on someone else's couch or rug or...your kid has a meltdown in the supermarket and everyone is staring.
I am curious to hear about one of your most embarrassing moments & how you handled it...
