Had to share this memorable moment: In Carl Schurz Park on the Upper East Side yesterday, and noticed a couple of dads with their kids among the playground chaos shooting the breeze. When I sauntered over to introduce myself and mention that it was "nice to see a few more dads during the day"...these two dads were in the midst of a conversation about the NYC Dads Group. They were talking about our recent playground tours around New York City with next week's event planned at the Samuel Seabury Playground on the UES. Huge props to group member Jake (with his 7-month old) who hasn't even been to an event yet, but was already spreading the good word to Shep (and his 15-month old) who is not yet a member. Not yet at least. When the dads group membership hit 200 at the beginning of the summer, someone commented the group is really gaining some "traction." Maybe. The group does not advertise and rely mainly on word of mouth so to See a dad on the playground promoting the group to another involved father sounds more like "traction" to me.
Speaking of word of mouth, listen to these hilarious words from the mouth of actor Jeremy Irons as he shares his infinite wisdom on limit setting so your kids don't come into bed with you. Thanks to Phil for sharing this bit on child rearing advice.
Lastly, Rebeldad (back from his summer hiatus) voted that Neil Patrick Harris should become a future member of the NYC Dads Group. Find out his reason why...
